Namibia’s LEWCOR Group Celebrates an Industry “Century”

The LEWCOR Group, a leading Namibian company in the mining and construction sectors, today proudly announced the addition of their 100th Articulated Dump Truck (ADT) to its fleet. This milestone marks a significant milestone for the 36-year-old company, reflecting its commitment to enhancing the operational efficiency of mining and construction in Namibia.

Offering superior traction and stability in Namibia’s challenging conditions, ADTs are incredibly versatile vehicles, designed for transporting large loads of materials such as sand, gravel, and soil over rough terrain. While they are exported by internationally renowned manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Bell, Volvo, and more recently, John Deere, LEWCOR sources its vehicles and maintenance exclusively from Namibian dealers. The remarkable growth of the LEWCOR ADT fleet has thus not only demonstrated the company’s sustained confidence in the Namibian growth story but has also directly boosted the Namibian economy with a ADT fleet value of around N$1 billion.

Mining and construction play critical roles in this growth story, contributing significantly to Namibia’s GDP and employment figures. The sectors are vital to the development of infrastructure and the extraction of valuable natural resources, which drive economic growth in the shorter term and improve living standards in the longer term. The growth in the LEWCOR fleet can thus be expected to play an important role in fostering economic development in Namibia.

Speaking from the Group’s offices in Okahandja, LEWCOR Group CEO, Helmuth Lewis, said “As a 100% Namibian company, owned and operated by Namibians, this is a proud moment for us. This milestone is important, but we are even more excited about the increasing contribution we can make to Namibia’s growth – we contribute directly both through our ADT fleet moving around 5.5 million tons of ore and building material each month and through the N$ 23 million worth of diesel our operators purchase every month from local fuel suppliers. Just as significantly, we have been able to create more than 270 operator employment opportunities within the ADT fleet. This continuous investment underscores our dedication to providing world-class equipment and services to our clients and affirms our confidence in Namibia’s economic progress.
